Back From The Symposium
I haven't posted for a few days, but I do have an excuse. For the last three days, I've been fully consumed by the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture. As always, it turned out to be a wonderful event, with a number of fine presentations and a memorable dinner in the Hall of Fame's plaque gallery. (Yes, the chicken was good, though they did run out of coffee.) I learned more than a few tidbits about the varying styles of each of the game's commissioners, the Indians' process of hiring Frank Robinson in 1974, and Gene Baker's role in the integration of coaching staffs in the 1960s. I'll be posting some of the best material from the Symposium over the next few days.
Until then, enjoy a weekend filled with baseball and seering humidity.
